Growth stage pictures of Merit 2-row Barley and Whitebird Soft White Spring Wheat for the week of 7/19/99.

 

This week the barley is in the early hard dough stage of kernel development and the wheat is in the soft dough stage of kernel development.  The barley is starting to lose color in the awns, glumes (seed covering), and the portion of the stems just below the heads (peduncle).

Growing degree days for week of 7/12 - 7/18 = 244.5
Accumulated growing degree days (emergence to 7/18) = 2227
