The
UI Soil and Site Evaluation Team is made up of undergraduate and
graduate students who are interested in gaining field experience
in the identification and evaluation of different types of soils.
Team activities provide field-based, "hands-on" training
for interested students - training that will ultimately foster proper
use and management of our soil and land resources. In recent years,
team members have traveled to Oregon, Utah, Maryland, Missouri,
and Oklahoma to participate in regional and national intercollegiate
soil evaluation contests. Members of the team also help prepare
and ship soil texture kits to schools around the region. Proceeds
from this activity are used to help pay the travel costs to regional
and national contests. All students with an interest in soils and
natural
resources are eligible to join the Soil and Site Evaluation Team
and are encouraged to contact Professor Paul McDaniel in the Department
of Plant, Soil, and Entomological Sciences at (208) 885-7012 for
more information, or via email at: pmcdaniel@uidaho.edu.
