Research:
Conducts field and lab research on the propagation, physiology, breeding, and cultivar development of western huckleberries and bilberries (Vaccinium spp.). Conducts cultivar development for edible-fruited blue honeysuckle (Lonicera caerulea). Conducts research on the production and physiology of true firs (Abies spp.) used for landscape ornamentals and Christmas trees.

Extension:
Provides support for the production of horticultural crops in Idaho. This includes training programs, consultation, and the production of technical support materials for
Extension Educators, commercial horticulturists, and Master Gardeners. Develops and evaluates production systems for emerging specialty crops--of primary interest are small fruits, woody landscape ornamentals, and Christmas trees.
