Nancy M. Cummings Research, Extension and Education Center

The Nancy M. Cummings Research, Extension and Education Center — located north of Salmon, Idaho — was donated to the University of Idaho by the Auen Foundation in 2005. The former Hot Springs Ranch, it spans more than 1,000 acres along the Salmon River.

The Auen Foundation of Palm Desert, Calif., foundation donated the property to the university to honor the late Nancy Cummings' love for the Salmon River Valley, her entrepreneurial spirit and her desire to expand educational horizons for its residents.

Research and extension projects include pioneering studies on animal identification systems, genetic improvement, reproductive efficiency, forage production and grazing practices. Researchers are already making significant contributions and the center is already providing educational opportunities in the Salmon River Valley — Nancy Cummings' lifelong wish.

The Idaho Cattle Association provided strong support for the center's mission by helping the university acquire its research herd.
