To
promote better integration of education and research and ensure
exposure to diverse research and geographic areas, IGERT fellows
will conduct a 3-6 month internship as part of their study program.
Through the internship program, students will have the opportunity
to change their geographical location of emphasis and, in some
cases, their disciplinary emphasis. Students will complete an
internship working with teammates in the country that is not
their primary field site. Students conducting their research
projects in Idaho will conduct an internship in Costa Rica,
whereas those conducting research in Costa Rica will conduct
the internship in Idaho. The internship program is designed
so that all students will have active involvement in team research
efforts with fellow students, while working on a project of
relevance to their own research. Subsequent to the internship,
students will present a seminar based on their internship project.
Additionally, results from research conducted during the internship
could be used to develop a collaborative dissertation chapter.
