Welcome to COBRE
This COBRE grant funds investigators from the Department of Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and the Department of Animal Veterinary Sciences to research the molecular and cellular basis of host-pathogen interactions. This funding will provide these investigators the opportunity to develop nationally competitive research programs in areas including bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic mechanisms of disease. Funding will also provide resources to recruit top students and researchers and to enhance core facilities.

New Developments

The University of Idaho’s first National Institutes of Health-funded Center of Biomedical Research Excellence grant in 2000 was key to recruiting virologist Kurt Gustin. The COBRE grant provided a competitive startup package that convinced Dr. Gustin to accept the Idaho offer over another from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
