Accounts
There are various kinds of computer accounts that meet different
needs of the offices and personnel of the College of Agricultural & Life Sciences.
Novell
Novell is a file-sharing operating system that is used heavily on campus, as well as in Boise and Kimberly. Novell accounts are used to share intra- and inter-departmental files. Many people in the college use Pegasus Mail, which is Novell-aware and uses disk space on the Novell servers to store incoming email and email folders. Novell accounts are normally set up by ITS and given to on-campus employees at new-employee orientation. Otherwise, Novell accounts can be set up through CCS Moscow or the ITS Help Desk for on-campus users.
Banner
Banner is the administrative computer system for the University of Idaho. While it is run on UNIX computers, those computers are not a part of the “nest” computers and require a separate account and special training. Contact the Scheduling Desk at 885-2127, Administration 140, for more information.
ISP
ISP (Internet Service Provider) accounts provide a means for County Extension Offices and
Home Research Centers to gain access to the Internet. In some cases the county government has networked their facilities and provides the connection. In other cases, County Extension Offices have obtained accounts with a local ISP
and use DSL, cable, or wireless to connect to the Internet. You may choose to have your email delivered to either the ISP servers or the UI
Email servers.
