Research and Extension Center Project Leaders
University of Idaho faculty conduct research on irrigated
and dryland wheat, barley, and oat varietal development, potato
varietal development, potato diseases, weed and insect management
systems, potato and small grain irrigation and nutrient management,
and improved cultural practices for all major crops grown in
the area. Interdisciplinary research teams conduct studies
to evaluate crop rotation effects on pest management and crop
production.

B.S., Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá
Research: Conducts research in Integrated Pest Management and biological control,
with a commodity responsibility for potatoes and cereal. Interests include
the implementation of biological control as part of an IPM program in the potato
crop in Idaho, the evaluation of weeds as potential inoculum sources for aphid-mediated
transmission of viruses, and the optimization of insecticide applications to
reduce virus transmission in the field. Also working in the biological control
project of cereal pests in Idaho. Currently using molecular tools in my research
and have a laboratory equipped for this work.
Extension: Provide extension/outreach IPM programs, technical support, and
educational materials that increase the working knowledge of county educators,
crop advisors, and other agricultural clientele.

Dakota State University, B.S., Iowa State University.
Research: Conducts a potato cropping systems research program
involving weed biology, weed control, herbicide and bio-pesticide
environmental fate, herbicide resistance management and cover
crop systems for weed control.
Extension: Develops and conducts potato cropping systems educational/technology
transfer programs for grower, agent and other clientele. Develops
weed control and herbicide resistance management recommendations
based on applied research conducted under Idaho conditions
and current literature and data from regional potato cropping
systems.
Advising: Graduate major professor and graduate committee member.
